תנו רבנן
כיצד מרקדין לפני הכלה?
בית שמאי אומרים:
“כלה כמות שהיא”.
ובית הלל אומרים:
“כלה נאה וחסודה”
אמרו להן ב”ש לב”ה
הרי שהיתה חיגרת או סומא
אומרי’ לה כלה נאה וחסודה?!
והתורה אמרה:
” מדבר שקר תרחק ?”
אמרו להם ב”ה לב”ש
לדבריכם- מי שלקח מקח רע מן השוק ישבחנו בעיניו או יגננו בעיניו ?
הוי אומר ישבחנו בעיניו !
מכאן אמרו חכמים לעולם תהא דעתו של אדם מעורבת עם הבריות
רב אחא מרכיב לה אכתפיה ומרקד, אמרי ליה רבנן: אנן מהו למיעבד הכי? אמר להו: אי דמיין עלייכו ככשורא – לחיי, ואי לא – לא.

מותר להסתכל בפני כלה כל שבעה
כדי לחבבה על בעלה
ולית הלכתא כוותיה

How should you dance before the bride?
Beth Shammai say:
The bride as she is.
Beth Hillel say:
‘Such a beautiful and graceful bride’
Beth Shammai said to Beth Hillel:
and; what If she is lame or blind, does one say of her: ‘Beautiful and graceful bride’?!
hasn’t the Torah3 said,
‘Keep thee far from a false matter”?
Beth Hillel answered Beth Shammai:
According to you- if one has made a bad purchase in the market, should one praise ;it in his eyes or depreciate it?
Surely one should praise it in his eyes!
Therefore, the Sages said: Always your disposition be pleasant with people.
R. Aha used to take brides on his shoulder
and danced with them.
His students asked: May we also do this?
He answered: If it feels like a beamthen
on your shoulders –then yes
R. Samuel b. Nahmani said [that] R. Jonathan said:
it is allowed to look intently at the face of the bride all the seven days of the wedding
in order to make her beloved to her
this position was not accepted as a Halacha
